No interview was planned. No article was scheduled. I just wanted a good massage. What I found was a husband-and-wife team who met in massage school, worked for everyone else, and finally built something of their own — right here in Green Cove Springs.

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. — Every once in a while I stumble into a local business completely by accident and think, more people need to know about this place.
That’s exactly what happened with Massage Craving.
Someone gave me a gift card. I finally made the appointment. I walked in expecting an hour on a table and, if I was lucky, a decent massage.
What I got was the best massage I’ve had in a very, very long time.
I should explain: I am picky. When I say I want pressure, I mean pressure. I don’t want to lie there for an hour feeling like someone is petting me like a cat.
Jennie Gaskins knew how to press.
She knew where to work, how much to give and when to really get into a muscle. You can tell within minutes when someone has real experience, and Jennie has it.
By the time we finished, the massage had done its job — and my curiosity had kicked in. So I did what I always do when I find something interesting in Clay County. I started asking questions.
“Do you mind if I ask you a few things? I think I want to write about you.”
And that’s how I learned the story behind one of Green Cove Springs’ newest small businesses.

The Business Is New. They Are Not.
Massage Craving opened its own location this summer, but Jennie and her husband, Darius Gaskins, are anything but new to this work.
They met in massage therapy school. They went on to work in the profession, building years of experience at other massage businesses. Along the way they got married. And eventually they decided it was time to stop building someone else’s practice and build their own.
Today they are both licensed massage therapists, business partners and a married couple running a practice together.
Jennie is the lead therapist. Her focus is neuromuscular therapy, deep tissue massage and corrective work — the kind of massage you book when something actually hurts. Darius offers couples sessions and select individual appointments, including myofascial release and deep relaxation.

The One Thing Jennie Wouldn’t Compromise On
After years of working for other businesses, Jennie and Darius had strong ideas about what their own practice should feel like. One of them mattered more than anything: consistency.
At many larger massage chains, you may get a different therapist every visit.
“You get a different therapist every time you go, and there’s no consistency in your treatment.”— Jennie Gaskins, lead therapist and co-owner, Massage Craving
When you keep seeing the same therapist, she explained, that person actually gets to know you. They know where you tend to hurt. They remember what bothered you last time. They learn how your body responds and what works.
“When you have a consistent massage therapist, they know your body, they know your issues,” she said.
After my own appointment, I understood exactly what she meant. If I go back to Jennie, I don’t have to explain that when I say pressure, I actually mean it.
She already knows.

Why Green Cove Springs? “Because We Need It.”
My favorite answer of the whole conversation came when I asked why they chose Green Cove Springs.
“Green Cove has a serious lack of wellness options,” Jennie said.
Jennie and Darius already knew and loved this community. They watched people constantly heading to Fleming Island for services that should exist closer to home. They also have clients coming up from the Palatka area, which makes Green Cove Springs a natural meeting point for people driving in from both directions.
Anyone living in Green Cove Springs or Lake Asbury knows this feeling. Our area has grown tremendously, and we still find ourselves driving to Fleming Island or Jacksonville for so many things.
So when somebody opens something good here, I want to know about it.
And when I find something good here, I want you to know about it too.

Then I Started Reading the Reviews
Once I knew I wanted to write this, I went looking for what other customers were saying. Turns out I wasn’t the only person who walked out impressed.
One woman wrote about living with chronic pain and being unable to turn her head. After working with Jennie, she said, she was able to get back to gardening, walking her dog and standing long enough to cook a meal.
That one stuck with me. We don’t think about how much those small, ordinary things matter until something hurts enough that we can’t do them anymore.
Another customer came in after weeks of pain and limited movement in his arm. He said he noticed a difference after his massage and could move it more freely.
Those are individual experiences, and everyone’s body and results are different. But the reviews echoed what I noticed on the table myself: Jennie isn’t going through the motions. She pays attention to what she’s working on.
This Isn’t Just an Hour of Relaxing
Massage Craving calls itself a clinical massage practice. That sounds fancy, but the idea is simple.
Some people want a massage because they want to relax. Others walk in because their neck is tight, their back hurts, something doesn’t move the way it used to, or they’ve been living with the same uncomfortable spot for months.
Jennie specializes in neuromuscular therapy, deep tissue and corrective work. Darius offers couples sessions and select individual appointments that include myofascial release and deep relaxation.
And if none of those words mean anything to you, that’s fine. I didn’t walk in speaking massage language either. I just knew I wanted a good massage.

My Favorite Part Came at the End
Toward the end of our conversation, I asked Jennie what she wished people knew about her and Darius — the thing you wouldn’t learn from their website.
She didn’t talk about certifications. She didn’t pitch me on why people should book. She talked about why they do this.
“Massage therapy is not just our job. We do it because we love it, because we love to help people feel better.”— Jennie Gaskins
Then she said something that explains this little new business better than anything I could write.
“We’re just two ordinary people trying to make a difference in the world.”— Jennie Gaskins
I liked that.
They aren’t new therapists trying something out. They’re two experienced professionals who met in massage school, worked for other people, got married and finally decided it was time to build something of their own.
And they chose Green Cove Springs to do it.
Sometimes That’s How You Find the Best Stories
I didn’t walk into Massage Craving looking for my next Clay County News story. I walked in because someone gave me a gift card.
But that’s often how the best local stories happen. You walk into a place you’ve never tried, meet the people behind it and realize there’s something here worth sharing.
So here I am, sharing it.
